It is believed that the melon has its origins in Egypt, where it appeared represented in tombs of the Pharaohs dating from 2400 BC. The gala variety originates from Israel. It is known by its scientific name "Cucumis Melo”.
The fruit is spherical in shape with a rough, hard skin. The thick netted skin is green and turns an intense yellow when fully ripe. The flesh, which is greenish white, isn’t very firm and has an exquisite aroma.
