Originating from a mutation of a peach tree, its scientific name is "Prunus Persica var. Platycarpa”. Currently world production is concentrated around the Mediterranean, with Spain being the principle exporting country of Flat peaches.
It is a round, flattened fruit of medium size with firm velvety skin that has a spectrum of colours. These start from a light yellow base and a red over colour, ranging to intense reds all over. It is very elegant depending on the variety. The flesh is of medium-high firmness and is consistently yellow or white in colour, depending on the variety.
Its aromatic and juicy, yet crunchy flesh has an excellent flavour and is pleasing to the palate. It also has an intense aftertaste.
