Although its origin is found in China, it spread after its cultivation in Japanhence on occasions it is said to be of Japanese origin. Its scientific name is "Prunus salicina”.
It is a round fruit with a heart shape, medium-large in size. Its smooth skin, which is thin or thick, may be yellow or green in colour.
The flesh is of medium-high firmness, with high water content and is consistently yellow in colour.
The fruit has a thin, smooth skin and a characteristic flavour which is more acidic than the red or black varieties. The fruit is juicy, due to its high water content.
Its aromatic and juicy flesh has an excellent flavour and is pleasing to the palate. It also has an intense aftertaste.
Product available from the middle of June until the beginning of October.
